Exam Pattern of UPSC Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2012

 

The Union Public Service Commission will be conducting the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2012 on 20 May 2012. The Preliminary Examination will consist of two papers of  Objective type. Following syllabus of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2012 is given below.

 

Paper I 

  •  Current events of national and international importance.
  • General Science
  • Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
  •  Indian and World Geography – Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
  • History of India and Indian National Movement.
  • Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.

Total Marks – 200

Duration – 2 Hours

Paper II

  • Comprehension
  •  General mental ability
  • Logical reasoning and analytical ability
  • Interpersonal skills including communication skills
  • English Language Comprehension skills (Class X level)
  •  Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. – Class X level)
  • Decision-making and problem solving

Total Marks – 200

Duration – 2 Hours
